The Roscommon Castle is a beautiful 13th century Norman construction located on Castle Lane in Roscommon Town, County Roscommon, just 35 minutes’ drive from Prince of Wales Hotel.

Built in 1275 the Roscommon Castle is one of the most important royal castles in Ireland during the 13th and 14th centuries, it was built to a design similar to contemporary royal castles such as Harlech Castle in Wales. While visiting the castle you can also enjoy a peaceful walk around 14 acres of recreational area at Loughnaneane Park.

The park surrounding the Roscommon Castle includes a turlough and a wildlife conservation area, which is a habitat of unique flora and fauna. A deck is provided for visitors to view the wildlife and vistas beyond. There is also a swallow hole onsite. The Park includes a crannog known locally as the Hill O’ Bones, a wildflower meadow, bird walk, lake feature, mounds, children’s playground, and car park.

The castle is a must-see for all families, couples, groups and individuals.
